Ravello Mahogany Quarterboards

These Ravello mahogany quarterboards have hand-carved letters finished with 23 karat gold leaf. Each gold leaf letter has a hand-painted outline, which we render with a fine lettering brush at our shop in Edgewater, Maryland. The quarterboards are on display aboard a Fleming yacht outfitted by Burr Yacht Sales in Edgewater.

Varnish for Mahogany Quarterboards

We protect the wood and the gold leaf surface with TotalBoat Lust marine varnish. However, varnished boards do need occasional care. You will want to give them a light sanding and an additional coat of varnish from time to time.

We Select Boards with Good Grain

Mahogany and teak are both fine hardwoods. We select them for their grain, which is easier to carve. Double gold leaf is the standard finish. In addition, we have other types of leaf available, such as palladium, white gold, and yellow gold.
