This estate entrance sign marks Coxby’s Estates III in Edgewater, Maryland. The community already had stone posts and a gate, but it needed a sign to bring the entrance together. We designed the sign and sandblasted it from HDU with a recessed woodgrain background. The combination of gold leaf and black is striking. Dark colors also provide the contrast that makes gold leaf lettering stand out.
Estate Entrance Sign Design
The sign stands on a custom fence between rugged stone posts. We sandblasted the sign face from high-density urethane (HDU), which holds crisp detail. The letters and trim are raised and finished with 23 karat gold leaf. A recessed woodgrain background gives the face texture without adding color.
HDU is not the only option for a community. We can also sandblast a cedar sign. In addition, we can route an HDU sign with incised or v-cut lettering. Each approach gives your entrance a different look, so we match the material to your site and your gate.

What Is Incised Lettering for an Entrance Sign?
Incised lettering is a machine-carving method that simulates the look of a hand-carved letter. For example, we made several signs for a church in Salisbury, Maryland. The v-cut letters in HDU make these signs look like we carved them the old-fashioned way, by hand with a chisel.
