We make sand carved signs, also called sandblasted signs, in our Edgewater, MD shop. The owner of Windswept Farm chose HDU for this sign, so we sandblasted it with a woodgrain texture in the background. Then we gilded the letters, the border and the horn in 23 karat gold leaf. As a result, the gold stands out crisply against the textured surface. If you want a sandblasted sign for your home, community or business, we’d be glad to help.
What Are Sand Carved Signs?
Any sign that we sandblast is a sand carved sign. A stencil protects the letters while the sand carves away the background, hence the name. Today, we sandblast cedar, and we cut the same textured look into HDU with a CNC router. Likewise, sandblasting carves deep letters into stone and concrete. However, some surfaces don’t carve well. For example, if a stone is too rough, the stencil won’t stick, so sand carving isn’t possible.
