A custom gold leaf boat name installed by Designs & Signs for Burr Yachts Sales in Edgewater, Maryland. This photo illustrates the installation process from start to finish. First the outline is installed (premium nine year vinyl), followed by the gold leaf (premium Sign Gold). This photo shows the brilliant detailing of the engine turned gold leaf. Designs & Signs also offers traditional hand application of gold leaf, which is great for restored wooden boats, but for most modern fiberglass hulls it is more appropriate to use geniune 23 karat Sign Gold. After installation the edge of the Sign Gold is sealed with a protective clear coat, which extends the life of this excellent genuine gold leaf film. Designs & Signs is proud to letter every Fleming Yacht, sold and outfitted by Burr Yacht Sales. We also manufactured carved teak side boards and a custom lettered ring buoy for Kathleen.

Golden Light

Genuine gold leaf boat name installed by Designs & Signs at Hartge Yacht Harbor in Historic Galesville, Maryland. Golden Light was created with 23 karat florentine swirl sign gold with a premium vinyl white outline. First the white vinyl is installed on the surface of the transom, then the gold leaf is installed on top of the white, which creates the outline. We always seal the edge of the sign gold with protective clear, which helps to preserve and protect the gold leaf. With proper maintenance and cleaning, your custom gold leaf boat name will look great for years to come.

Mi Amante

22kt Gold Leaf Boat Name with Painted Outline, installed by Brendon Brandon of Designs & Signs in Edgewater, Maryland. This beautiful wooden boat was designed and manufactured by Mast and Mallet Boatworks in Edgewater, Maryland. Designs & Signs installs many traditional gold leaf boat names for Mast and Mallet. In this photo Brendon Brandon applies a hand painted outline and shadow to the gilded boat name.

Bessy

Brendon Brandon applies a gold leaf boat name to Bessy, a fine wooden boat designed and manufactured by Mast and Mallet Boatworks in Edgewater, Maryland. First the name and port are pounced onto the wood transom with charcoal and a paper pattern. Size is then brushed onto the surface by hand and when the size is beginning to set up, the gold leaf is applied quickly by hand. The timing of this part of the process is crucial. If you lay the gold too soon it will sink and crack, if you lay the gold leaf too late it will not adhere completely to the size. After the gold is applied it is again time to wait, for the size beneath the gold leaf must dry completely before any of the loose gold can be removed. The black outline is then applied by hand and finally the entire transom is given a clear coat to protect the wood and the gilded boat name.
