This mahogany boat sign for reKUPPERation is now on display at Burgee Bar. The name is a clever play on words, so we wanted the design to have some fun with it. As a result, a blue marlin sweeps across the board and curls right into the lettering.
A Mahogany Boat Sign with Gold Leaf Lettering
First, we gilded the letters in genuine gold leaf. Next, we gave them a blue outline and a soft gray drop shadow. Together, these details help the gold stand out against the rich red tones of the wood. Meanwhile, the marlin was painted by hand in deep blues and white. Its tail even forms the “K” in the middle of the name.
Finished to Last
The board has clipped corners and a smooth, rounded edge. To protect it, we sealed the mahogany with TotalBoat Lust varnish. Then we finished it with a sprayed coat of Awlcraft 3000 Clear. That high-gloss finish brings out the deep grain of the wood. Above all, it keeps the sign looking sharp for years.
