Teak Nameboards with Carved Gold Leaf Letters
These teak nameboards show the traditional quarterboard at its best. The deeply carved letters carry 23 karat gold leaf. A hand-painted black outline makes every letter stand out against the warm grain of the wood.
Teak has been the wood of choice on boats for centuries. It’s dense, rich in natural oils and stands up to sun and salt air. That’s why teak nameboards look right on a boat, a cottage or a dock house. We cut and carve each board to order, then gild the letters by hand with traditional loose gold leaf. If you’re curious about the craft behind it, our gilding guide covers the basics.
A Finish Built to Last
Once we finish the gold and outline, we seal our teak nameboards with TotalBoat Lust marine varnish. Then we spray on several coats of Awlcraft 3000 Clear. That clear coat keeps the teak and the gold looking sharp. Traditional varnish needs touching up every year. Awlcraft only needs a light sanding and recoat about every ten years. You can read more in our post on Awlcraft 3000 on quarterboards.
Teak nameboards make a lasting gift for a new boat, a family cottage or a favorite beach house. We can make them in nearly any length. You choose the lettering style, border and gold leaf layout to suit the name and the place it will hang.
