A church is often one of the oldest and most important buildings in a community. Its signs should feel just as lasting. Good church signs welcome visitors, mark the entrance, and honor the people who built and served the congregation. From our shop in Edgewater, Maryland, we make entrance signs, cast plaques, wall letters, and gold leaf for churches and synagogues across Maryland and Washington, DC.

Church Entrance Signs

An entrance sign is usually the first thing a visitor sees. For example, we made the signs around historic Trinity Methodist Church in Salisbury, Maryland. They’re routed HDU, finished with premium exterior Sherwin-Williams paint. Then we laid gold leaf on the letters, trim, and finials by hand. As a result, the signs match the dignity of the building, and they’ll hold up outdoors for years.

Bronze Plaques and Letters

Cast bronze suits a church perfectly, since it’s warm, formal, and lasts for decades. For instance, we made custom cast plaques for First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, along with bronze wall letters above the entrance. Likewise, for Washington Hebrew Congregation in DC, we made a cast plaque and brushed bronze letters. Learn more on our cast bronze and aluminum page.

Gold Leaf for Historic Church Signs

On older buildings, gold leaf on glass is a traditional touch. For example, we gilded address numbers on the glass transom above a historic church entry. Numbers like these are usually about five inches tall, with a black outline and sometimes a shadow. Read more about our gilding and memorial plaques.
