Gold Leaf Transom House Numbers

At Designs & Signs, we make transom house numbers for homes in Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC. Our shop is in Edgewater, Maryland. A gold leaf number on a transom window gives a home a quick face-lift. For a private residence, we use loose leaf gold. We also frame our gold leaf numbers with a dark black painted outline.

Why Do We Outline Our Gold Leaf Numbers?

Gold leaf tends to disappear into the glass in some light conditions. The outline helps prevent this, and it makes the gold shine even brighter. Contrast is a good thing. The black paint behind the letters also completes the mirror effect by blocking interior light from behind the number. Without the backup paint, the letters would appear transparent at night, when the indoor and outdoor lighting changes.
