Bay Dreamin’ is a Florentine gold leaf boat name with a cardinal red outline, lettered on a dark blue transom. In addition, her hailing port, Sue Island, MD, sits in matching capitals below. The Florentine finish has a fine swirl pattern, so the letters catch the light from every angle.

A red outline for a dark blue transom

Most of our gold leaf boat names get a navy or black outline. On a dark blue hull, though, a dark outline would disappear. So for Bay Dreamin’, we chose cardinal red Avery premium cast vinyl. As a result, the red frames every letter and gives the script a warm edge against the deep blue.

The name suits a boat from Sue Island, on Maryland’s Chesapeake Bay. The relaxed script fits it well, while the hailing port in plain capitals keeps the layout easy to read.

Installing a Florentine gold leaf boat name

The red outline goes on the transom first. Next, each letter in Florentine gold leaf film is set inside it, one at a time. There is more than one way to do that.

One way is to tape the letter into place first, with a tape hinge along one edge. Then we remove the backing and squeegee the letter down, working forward from the hinge, always with application fluid. In the video below, however, I set the letters by hand without taping them first.

The finished boat name

Finally, here is a short walkaround of the finished name. Watch how the swirl pattern in the gold shifts as the camera moves along the transom.

Florentine is one of several gold leaf film finishes we offer. For other examples, see Mimi in Florentine swirl gold leaf, Bonnie Sue in burnished gold and Golden Light.
