Hillsmere Shores Community Pool Sign in Routed HDU
This community pool sign welcomes members and guests to the Hillsmere Shores Community Pool, home of the Hammerheads. We routed it from HDU (high-density urethane) and then gave it a classic look with a gilded sailboat.
Woodgrain Texture and Raised Letters
The flat, raised letters and border sit above a recessed woodgrain background. As a result, the texture catches the light and gives the sign real depth from the parking lot. In addition, HDU won’t rot, crack or warp like wood, so this sign keeps its shape through many summers outdoors.
For a finishing touch, we gilded the sailboat on this community pool sign by hand with traditional gold leaf. It adds a little shine and also ties the sign to life on the water in Hillsmere Shores. If you’re curious about the craft, our gilding guide covers the basics.
Paint and Finish
First, we primed the background of the community pool sign and painted it with premium Sherwin-Williams flat latex. The flat green keeps the woodgrain soft, while the white lettering stands out against it. Next, we roll on gloss white enamel for the letters and border with a brayer. Because the brayer touches only the raised surfaces, the edges stay crisp and clean.
Community Pool Signs and Entrance Signs
Hillsmere Shores sits just outside Annapolis, a short drive from our shop in Edgewater, Maryland. We’ve been making signs since 1976, and we design each one around the place it stands, from the colors to the lettering style. After all, a community pool sign is a simple way for a neighborhood to show its pride. For more of our work, see our community entrance signs and routed HDU signs galleries.
