Carved Community Entrance Sign for Pleasant Plains
We created this carved community entrance sign for Pleasant Plains, near Annapolis. The existing wall was already in place, so we did not need to build one. Instead, the HOA hired us to design and install a new sign. We made it at our shop in Edgewater, Maryland.
A Simple Design for a Carved Community Entrance Sign
The wall is attractive, so we designed a simple sign to go with it. Conservative designs always look good. In contrast, too many details can distract from the gold leaf and the carving. For that reason, we kept the layout clean and let the materials do the work. When we build carved signs from quality materials, it is not necessary to overdo the design. We do not want to detract from the natural appeal of the sign.
In addition, a simple layout is easy to read from the road. Neighbors and visitors can see the community name at a glance. As a result, the sign works well for daily traffic as well as for guests who are finding the neighborhood for the first time.
Carved Community Entrance Sign Materials and Finish
We made the sign from high-density urethane (HDU), then sandblasted it with a recessed wood grain finish. The sign uses two colors of exterior latex paint. Additionally, we added 23 karat gold leaf to the feather flourishes. The gold stands out against the painted background, so the flourishes are the first detail people notice.
First, we work with the HOA on the layout and colors. Then we build the sign in our shop. Finally, we install it at the entrance. Throughout the project, we keep the board informed so the community knows what to expect.
