We made this boat name life ring for Knot Done. First, we lettered the name in grey and black Avery vinyl. In addition, a rope knot forms the K, a playful nod to the name. Like every life ring we make, we built it to order at our shop in Edgewater, Maryland.
From a low-res image to clean boat name life ring art
The owner sent us a small, low-resolution image of the boat name. However, a file like that looks fine on a phone but can’t cut clean vinyl letters. Therefore, we redrew the whole design as smooth vector art. As a result, every curve and every strand of the rope knot cuts crisp and sharp.
Arched to fit the ring
A straight name looks awkward on a round life ring. For that reason, we arched the design to follow the curve of the ring. That way, the name wraps naturally around the top and reads easily from across the dock. The grey letters with a black outline also stand out against the white ring.
