We installed this gold leaf restaurant window lettering for Barcelona Wine Bar & Restaurant at 1622 14th Street NW in Washington, DC 20009. We created the lettering at our shop in Edgewater, Maryland with 23 karat double gold leaf and a painted black outline. A job like this takes a full day to complete.
How We Gild Restaurant Windows
First, we paint the outline of the letters onto the interior surface of the glass. Then we apply the gold leaf by hand. Drying time is required between each layer of painting and gilding, so the work moves in steps. When the gilding is done, we go over the lettering one more time and patch the gold leaf as needed. Finally, we apply backing paint. The backing paint protects the gold leaf on glass for years to come.
