A hue is the pure color itself, such as red, blue, green, or yellow. It’s the part of a color that tells you which color you’re looking at. How light or dark that color is comes separately. So a light red and a dark red share the same hue.
Why Hue Matters on a Sign
The hue you choose is one of the first things people notice about a sign. A blue sign feels different from a red one. In other words, it sets the mood before anyone reads a single word. That’s why it’s worth getting right.
Choosing Colors That Work Together
Hues rarely stand alone. Each one affects the colors around it. So we look at how everything works together on the whole sign, including the lettering, the background, and the surroundings. Sometimes a client already has brand colors in mind, so we start there. Other times, we help you choose.
How We Approach Color
We choose colors, materials, and application techniques that suit each sign and the place it will go. We also think about where the sign will be seen and who will see it. Our goal is a finished sign that matches what you pictured. So we talk through your ideas first, and then we build from there.
Color in Our Work
Color choices show up in every kind of sign we make. For example, we lettered a boat name in gold leaf for Golden Light. Our community entrance signs and quarterboards each call for their own colors too. Browse our gold leaf boat names, community entrance signs, carved quarterboards, dimensional letters, and custom life rings for more.
You can also see everything we build on our What We Do page. Not sure which hue suits your sign? Get in touch or call us at (410) 798-5115, and we’ll talk it through.
