Cedar Farm Sign for Diesel’s Farm
This cedar farm sign marks the entrance to Diesel’s Farm in Davidsonville, Maryland. The owner had one special request: he wanted his dog’s face painted right on the sign. It was the biggest dog we’ve ever seen. In fact, judging by those black, rust and white markings, he looks a lot like a Bernese Mountain Dog.
Sandblasted Cedar with Real Woodgrain
We sandblasted this sign from solid cedar. As a result, the softer wood wears away and leaves the grain standing up in relief. If you look closely, you’ll see a unique woodgrain pattern across the whole background of the cedar farm sign. Because no two boards ever look the same, every sandblasted sign is one of a kind.
Next, we painted the dog’s portrait by hand with lettering enamel, right in the center between the raised letters. The crisp white lettering and dark border frame it nicely, so the dog really is the star of the sign. Above all, we wanted the portrait to look just like him.
Built to Stand on the Farm
To hang the sign, we built a painted post with a powder-coated iron bracket. In addition, the post stands on powder-coated stainless steel legs, set deep in concrete. That way, this cedar farm sign will hold up through wind, weather and years of farm traffic.
More Cedar and Farm Signs
Davidsonville is a short drive from our shop in Edgewater, Maryland, and we’ve been making signs since 1976. Lately we’ve made quite a few farm entrance signs. Still, a cedar farm sign with a personal touch like this one is always a favorite. For example, we can paint a pet, a barn, a tractor or a family crest right into the design.
