A detail is a small part of a larger whole, the kind of thing most people only notice up close. On a sign, that means the spacing between letters. It means the depth of a carved line, or how clean an edge comes out. Small as they are, details are what separate a sign that looks handmade from one that just looks flat.

Why Detail Matters in Our Work

A sign only needs one look for someone to notice if the details are off. Uneven spacing or a rushed edge stands out, even to someone who couldn’t say exactly what’s wrong. So we slow down at the parts most people would skip past. That’s usually where a sign either earns its keep or falls short.

Where Detail Shows Up Most

For example, quarterboards show how much detail goes into a single piece. Each board has to follow the curve of the boat. So we plan the lettering and layout around that shape, not a flat surface. We check every letter against the ones next to it. That way, the spacing reads clean from a distance and holds up just as well up close.

How We Approach Detail

Every sign is an original piece, and every one is its own project. So a craftsman’s hand stays on the small details from the first sketch to the final install. Along the way, we talk it through with you, rather than rushing to the finish.
