After pouncing, the black is then painted. This technique of mural painting is know as cutting, where by letters are formed using the background color. This Large Painted Architectural Mural was installed by Designs & Signs at Whole Foods Market Short Pump, near Richmond, Virginia. First the rectangular area was painted by rollers with white block filler; two coatings were needed to completely hide the color of the brick wall. Paper pounce patterns were used to apply a charcoal outline of the lettering to the white block. This subtle outline allows the black letters to be brush painted by hand.
